The Nokia N900 is not even available to us yet, but this has not stopped a image from popping up on a German website claiming to be it’s successor – the Nokia N920, which will be an alternative to the Nokia N900 and will be a touch-only device with a 4.13 inch screen and the Maemo OS (possibly version 6). The N920 has full telephony and messaging with GSM, 3G, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth. The powerful 600MHz processor will allow multiple apps to run without too many problems.
The Maemo interface offers several different homescreens that are easily accessible with a simple swipe of the thumb and there’s an accelerometer for automatic screen rotation. Unlike the N900, which runs most apps in landscape mode, the N920 will operate primarily in portrait mode as it doesn’t have a slide out QWERTY keyboard.
A 600MHz processor is something that is already available with the new Palm Pre, but Nokia using technology after already coming to market is nothing new. Just remember the big deal they made when they release a 8MP camera phone – Nokia N86. Then a couple of months later, Samsung made that effort looking pittyful with the Samsung Pixon12 and then we had the Sony Ericsson Satio. Online gossip and chatter suggests the N920 will be with us in 2010 – but no mention of if that will be early or late in the year.
